Photography - Level 1

To earn a Photography - Level 1 Skill Badge you need to upload photos to your design project, in any step of the design process, to document your work. Photos must include details that help other Makers understand your project and/or environment.

Good Example:

  • Photos are in focus (not blurry!)
  • Include details that relate directly to your project
  • Relate to the specific step of the design process they are in:
Define, Collect, Brainstorm & Analyze, Develop, Feedback, Improve
  • Are supported by a description:

"This is a photo of my model I did for the Brainstorm step of the Container House project. I used multiple containers to create more space."

Poor Example:

Any photo without important details that would help other Makers understand your project and/or environment . For example, a photo with just a container and no other details about materials or environment.

Photography - Level 3

Photography pro? This Skill Badge recognizes Makers who use multiple images throughout the design process, and can show that they fully understand how to communicate through photo. To level up to a Photography - Level 3 Skill Badge you need to have already received a Photography - Level 2 badge.

Good Example:

  • Include details relating to at least three Big Ideas (i.e. Site, Structure, and Space) that help other Makers understand your project, site, and/or a specific feature
  • Clearly paid attention to lighting, composition, image resolution, and point of view
  • Relates to one or more steps in the design process
  • Supported by a description that explains how the photo helps you solve the design challenge
  •    "Here is the lot for the proposed building. The lot is about 1 acre from the far corner of the field, where this photo was taken, to the building to the northwest. Check out my sun path diagram in the Brainstorm step!"

Poor Example:

A photo that lacks perspective and does not take into account background and foreground elements that tell a bigger story of where this photo was taken, surrounding buildings, or features.
