Redesign Your School Athletic Pavilion | 2014 National High School Architecture Competition #195
|The space separating our school’s recreational facilities and main building is quite an eyesore of urban materials. The walk between the two buildings is typically bland, since students must walk across a bus lot and what is left of a basketball court. The location deserves a more visually appealing structure which may have the potential to organize locations for recreational activities. This will attract more students to wander outdoors during their free periods, thus also eliminating the current issue of having a crowded main hallway. This issue is especially prominent since the influx of new freshman, who constantly congest the busiest hallway in our school.
This space may include a direct path connecting our school’s facilities. There will most likely be some form of cover to protect students from harsh weather conditions. In addition to this we may add several courts which may be used for a variety of team sport, such as: basketball, volleyball, wall ball, and futsal. The addition of these courts will be beneficial to our school’s growing sports programs and it would add more options to our gym teachers. It will also help many of my peers stay active throughout the day.

Your idea to create protected outdoor spaces for students to congregate outside is a sensible solution to the problem of overcrowding in the hallways. I am curious about the eyesore of urban materials. Could you describe what they are?
