Redesign Your School Athletic Pavilion | 2014 National High School Architecture Competition #134
|A-Tech focuses mainly on academics, but lacks in a well-functioning athletic center. The A-Tech gym was built in 2000 without considering the increase in student population over time. The locker rooms inside the gym are too small to accommodate the many students taking P.E. During freshman year students need to change in the portable. The bleachers are too small, so it needs bleachers on both sides of the gym. This gives more center attention and visual of the speaker. There are no windows in the gym except for the glass blocks in the weight room. The sun glares through the glass blocks and there is poor air conditioning in the weight room. The weight room needs to be larger and better organize. This will provide room to separate the equipment, so students will not have difficulty moving around the weight room. The gym needs curtain walls allowing natural light and indoor air quality. Double doors on both sides will help make exits and entrance easier for people. The gym is detached to the outdoor basketball court and baseball field. The gym needs to be relocated so that it can utilize the field. The exterior lacks aesthetic qualities. It fails to provide visual interest of the gym.
