Park-itecture
|POCKET PARK: A park, on a smaller scale, usually located in a heavily urbanized area meant to serve as a space for people to gather or just simply relax and get away from the hustle of the day. For this project, I will be attempting to design a pocket park that exhibits universal design in order to meet the needs of the various age groups and people of different abilities while also being aesthetically pleasing from the street view and also energy and/or water efficient by taking building orientation into consideration in order to reduce solar and electrical loads while increasing solar and electrical gains. The amenities I plan to use are seating, shading structures, and a way to fuse both urban and natural features. I plan on using "psudo-wooden" panels that also double up as solar panels, in order to have some degree of self-sustainability, that is, the ability to keep itself powered without being connected to the power grid. As for water sustainability, I plan on selecting plants that are well suited to the desert climate of Las Vegas to minimize the amount of water required to keep the green space "green". Downtown Las Vegas has been going under a sort of 'artist revival' recently, so I also wanted to have a component in my park that would allow artists to express themselves as the 'renaissance' of the adjacent area continues. As for the environmental impact, the area on 6th St. and Garces Ave. is quite bland; commercial buildings surround it, making it a concrete-dominant area. With this pocket park, the space will be more appealing and serve the purpose as a zen space for those wanting to escape the hectic work day or those just simply wanting to relax.

Nice overall development combining your initial ideas and delivering a completed 3D project. Great to see perspective views showing character of your design. Try developing your material maps to the next level in your next projects.
I like the emphasis placed on the one corner of the park, but I would love to be able to see the environment around it to understand why that corner should stick out! Keep up the great work! Also, awesome pun title!
