Pocket Park Design: Wilted Lettuce Park | 2015 National High School Architecture Competition
Summary
To collect information I sought inspiration through both my own community hang-outs, the ones I frequented growing up, and also through taking pictures of additional local parks and gardens for a varied look on design. From there, I used Microsoft Publisher to put together boards to display what I felt were the best pictures containing all of the features I wished to see implemented into my park. After that I analyzed the specific parks areas based on: landscape, uniqueness, and usefulness to the community. I picked the best qualities of each park and incorporated into the brainstorming of my design. I believe what makes an amazing park is a sense of security, relaxation, and symmetry. One goes to parks to unwind from the outside world, to find a sense of isolation, and to be free of any other responsibilities for a short while.Being uniform yet creatively spaced into different areas gives the park-goer a sense of adventure, almost as if arriving in a whole other world.

Bicycle Cities
Biking is a popular -& green!- way to travel. Yet if there is nowhere to lock up your bike, people may be discouraged to use their bike to get around. Did you know that you can Request a new bike rack in your area? Cities all over the U.S. have multiple types of bike racks they can install and all you have to do is submit a request.
