In developing a solution that fits the area and the Las Vegas environment, I thought a lot about different trees that would be great providers of shade while simultanelously not taking up a lot of space. I decided upon an African sumac in many of the seating areas, with its dense canopy providing shade while allowing for standing room underneath its branches. From the Southern Nevada Water Association :Dense, rounded to spreading habit with slightly weeping appearance. Leathery, medium to bright green leaves divided into 3 narrow, willow-like leaflets. Clusters of yellow-green flowers are profuse but insignificant. Clusters of pea-like fruit ripen to tan or red-brown. Carried only on female trees. Fruit is a food source for birds. Attractive rough, reddish-brown bark. Usually multi-trunked. Prune for shape and to lift canopy.
