Adaptive Reuse
Architects often find creative ways to reuse old structures that are no longer in use. Check out how old rail lines were adapted to create New York's High Line and Chicago's 606.

I love the look of the park but I feel that the area closest to the row of trees should be more open to allow for larger recreational activities unless you were shooting for a more business oriented park.
I think having the trees stacked on a single side of the park doesn't provide the greatest view or shading capabilities as spreading them across the site would provide. Now, if you were going for a bit more of open space, then you've accomplished that. I also like the central area of your site where families could relax and enjoy an element the desert is not accompanied to.
