Urban Farming Pocket Park
05/20/15
The desert has beautiful native plants and Las Vegas is no expectation. However, the current trend of planting horrendous palm trees causes the extinction of native plants in urban areas. Native trees to the Las Vegas area are Catclaw Acacia, Western Redbud, Desert Willow, Single Leaf Pinion, Native Mesquite, Screwbean Mesquite. Not only do these trees look amazing in the desert but they also proved enormous amounts of shade, such as the Desert Willow that has a large expanse of leaves. Also, many of the Native trees have wonderful vibrant colors such as the Western Redbud.

Bicycle Cities
Biking is a popular -& green!- way to travel. Yet if there is nowhere to lock up your bike, people may be discouraged to use their bike to get around. Did you know that you can Request a new bike rack in your area? Cities all over the U.S. have multiple types of bike racks they can install and all you have to do is submit a request. I really like your plant selection! It is subtle and beautiful!

I really like the thought of putting native trees to Las Vegas. Invasive species can damage the environment and cause native plants to go extinct.
Thank you! I don't think people give enough credit to trees and plants native to the Las Vegas area, some are absolutely beautiful. When is the last time you have seen a Blue Heron in Las Vegas? Blue Heron where native birds to Las Vegas and now you rarely see one. I do not want that to happen to plants and trees native to Las Vegas. :)
Nice on using native trees and plants as that helps the environment and makes your park more suited for the environment and friendly on water and all of those costs.
Responsible and sustainable planning were important outlines given for this project. Using local varieties in your planning showcases just that extremely well.
