Mira Loma HS Library Re-Design: Recent activity

We have installed small trees by the entrance, and plants on the top balcony and inside our building. The trees surrounding the building will provide cleaner air and shade. The plants on the top balcony and inside the building are specifically chosen to filter the air. The use of these plants ensures the air quality in our library.

There are heat reflecting glass installed in the building, which doesn't allow it to easily get hot inside. The roof is made out of glass to save energy and use sunlight for the lighting in the day. The balcony is made to study in a outdoor environment. There is a metal piece attached in order to reflect the sunlight. This way we can save energy and use natural sources for lighting.

We agree. We hope to fix that problem in our new design.

Well first off, this space is quite limited. The tables are good for group work but there is not enough seating for students who prefer to sit somewhere alone to work. There are only a few couches where a few students could come and sit to just read a book. We feel there needs to be more seating like couches and tables that could be moved together for group work and seperated for individual work.

Thank you for taking your time to comment! We agree, the door really is narrow. Whenever a big class enters, it seems like traffic occurs as the students all try to get inside. Our new design will definitely have bigger doors for better accessibility and safety.

There are so many things happening at this desk that it would be hard to stand at it and feel you could see and serve all the students at the desk AND still see what the students are doing.

the doorway is a three foot doorway. I've seen bag packs almost that wide. How does the size of a door relate to actual accessibility and implied inclusion to the student population?

How do you feel about his space as far as how it helps a student to study? Is there an option for individuals to study in silence while allowing small groups to collaborate or at least sit together? Should there be?
