Rainwater Park
|Design a pocket park for your neighborhood or school.
I am designing a park for the youth in the neighborhood and for the students near the school.
Pocket parks started in New York. It is a small park accessible to the general public. Pocket parks are frequently created on a single vacant building lot or on small, irregular pieces of land.
The location of the park is in walking distance to fast food bus stops, neighborhoods, and two high schools. This is using the idea of a walkable community that allows residents to socialize and access community amenities such as the bus and stores. This park will reinforce the idea of walkable communities.
Rainwater Park is a celebration of the little water we get in Las Vegas. It will store water in a well that will help sustain the park. Other things to consider sustaining the park are natural day light, types of plants to protect from winds, harvest rainwater to reduce the use of potable water, efficient irrigation systems, and location tolerant plants.
This park will have a positive impact in the area. Recycling and trash receptacle will be available. Materials such as concrete, treated wood, and brick will be used in the construction of the park for long lasting quality.
