Library Overview
The New Milford High School Library. If it has not been painfully obvious, the library needs to be redone. Not that it is ugly, but everything is old. On one whole wall, the paint is stained with part grey half dark yellow marks all over the wall. Not only that but right behind Mrs. Fleming’s desk, there's a huge grey blotch of nothing with holes in it. To make it even better, someone thought it was funny to draw smiley faces in it. Continuing on, there is not enough books, and there are not enough computers. When I want to do work, I have to be one of the first ten people to rush for a computer. It should not be that way. Lastly, the arrangement of the sitting area is atrocious. They have three longs tables with what seems like 40 chairs all packed into one corner of the room. Now, the library is not completely bad. There is a room towards the back in which could be renovated to a little study nook. Also, that room on the other side with a whole bunch of room with chairs, could be supplied with more books, and add some decorations and a nice paint to help liven the place up. Not only that, but we could make a nicer transition between the library and the courtyard. Possibly, add a little balcony off of the library, with stairs off of the balcony leading to the courtyard. However, I love how the school is trying to become more modern or more advanced in technology. We now have a charging station (which I do not trust but still good), three 3d printers, a huge station with tons of gizmos to tamper with, nice flat screen TVs that are screen mirrored by tablets, and bluetooth balls that you can control.
If I were to rate our library, it would be a 4/10. That does not even compare to the noise that goes on in there. I’d rather study in the lunchroom then in the library to be honest. However, it is not completely bad. So, as mentioned, my plan is to have more computers. Bust out that little room before moving into Mrs. Fleming’s office to create more space for computers. Also, take away everything on the side of the courtyard entrance. We will have it all glass, with a sliding door that will get you out onto the balcony. Then, on the opposing wall, we will have tons of books (hopefully) with all cherry wood. I actually want to get rid of all the tables and chairs. They do not fit in their at all. I want to have a seating area like so:
All the chairs center around one table, so we will have tons of those, 8 in total, so 32 people could sit down. Not only that, but remember that study nook I was talking about? Yes, from there I will just add built in seats against the walls for people who just want to relax. Lastly, I would put a TV on the wall that leads into the study nook, so that everyone could see it. Instead of tablets, we will have it display all Knights News, just like the one when you first walk into the school. I am not going to completely change the outlook of the library, however the changes will be worth while.
