2013 national competition project | Library Redesign #023
|Overview
Program: Renovation of the School’s Library
Site: 29 Fort Greene Pl Brooklyn, NY 11217
Design Challenge Background:
Libraries are no longer being used as a place to store and distribute books, nor are they used for studying. With new additions to technology, libraries are forced to change their ways of operating to meet the needs of students.
Design Challenge Brief: The library is the ideal place for students to go to during their free periods when they need to get work done. The library needs to be a good place to study, do homework, and conduct research. Above all else, it has to be quiet. Often the library is not large enough to accommodate all the students that want to use the library during their free periods.
Redesign the interior of the existing library space to help students be more efficient. Include a café to give students a bite to eat, who were hungry from not going to the cafeteria during their free period. Computers needs to be updated with the latest software and programs. How to fit more students in the library by changing the layout of the chairs, desks, and workstations? What about the students who just want something to read? How should the book storage room be changed to be able to store more books in a small space?
