Redesign your school library | 2013 National High School Architecture Competition #287: Recent activity

Hello, I am an architect living in Madrid, Spain and I am part of the 2013 competition jury.
You made a lot of progress between the last phase and this one. Your hard work and effort is evident in the detail included in the 3d computer model. I hope you are able to fix the glitch with the lighting of the interior views because it would be very helpful to be able to view them better to get a sense of what it would be like inside the space. I noticed you mentioned the use of some sustainable features; did you also consider the orientation of the building and study the sun's path? Also, it would be good to show more context of the school, for example a plan of the overall building so we can understand how the library relates to the rest of the building. Keep up the good work! I hope you enjoyed the design process.

I can see that you have developed concepts originating from your brainstorming phase, looks like a good evolution of the design. Since you have a two story library, drawing a section would also be useful. The one thing that is not clear in your drawing is where the windows are, assuming that some of the walls are exterior walls and would have windows.

It is great to see that you are exploring various concepts and by sketching different layouts, though more descriptive text would help us know what concepts are included in each. The lists you created of ideas of sustainable features that could be included and what elements you think should be included in the library are also useful. Another thing you could include in this phase is photos of other library spaces that you find inspirational.

While the photos you included are helpful for understanding your existing library, a floor plan and interviews with students would be other useful information to have included in this phase.
