HONORABLE MENTION: 2013 national competition project | Library Redesign #255

Summary

A few kids from my school we working on this project, so what we did was that we grouped together to fidn out the dimensions for our current library. We split up in each period and took the correct measurements needed to create the layout of our library. Our teacher assisted us in being able to find the old blueprints and plans set up, along with helping to find out the hieght of the walls and the distance of the road outside away from the school. Once the dimensions were found and imported to create the layout, this is where we split our seperate ways and designed our own school libraries. Inside my schools library we currently have one big library with little rooms connections to it; a computer lab, a study, IT room, servers room, and an empty classroom. In the library, there is an open area full of desks and tables where study kids usually go or teachers bring their class to to do research or read. Also, there are 30 computers and a laptop rack where students are free to use, and teachers bring their students for researchprojects. Also, on seperate sides of the library are rows of book shelves with books including references and encyclopedias. In the computer lab is 5 rows of 6 computers for another 30, where this room is only used by teachers and their students. The study room is just connected to the library, and is a room full of tables, desks, and a few computers where students do homework, study, read, basically have a free period. The IT/Servers room, no students are allowed in there. Obtaining the information from my teacher, it is a basic office with wires hanging all over the place with a servers room connected to it so they can monitor and access them without a problem. The empty classroom was used as a little cafe where bagels, fruit, and drinks were sold. As of now, it is not in use and used for storage. Students are not allowed outside in our school, except for lunch (which has an enclosed courtyard in the lunchroom), and there is nothing outside around the library for students to do.
