Summary

Upon determining the constraints and needs of a locker, we brainstormed different ideas to address the problems. First, we brainstormed the shape of the locker. The rectangular prism shape of the current lockers are too small to hold an average size backpack and books. Increasing the number of sides that a polygon has incerases its volume. We used the following formula to determine which shape has the greatest volume: 1/4n⁡cot⁡(π/n)= V_n. By using this formula, we discovered that a polygon with the most sides has the greatest volume. However, any shape after an octagon is similar in structure to a circle. Therefore, we chose an octagon shaped locker. Next, we used Google Sketch-Up in order to create our locker and sketch our ideas. We added features to the locker based on our brainstorming ideas.
