Redesign Your School Athletic Pavilion | 2014 National High School Architecture Competition #206
|If I was going to redesign an athletic facility into a pavilion for my high school, County Prep, the atmosphere I would create would be a comfortable and fun one. This comfortable and fun atmosphere would be one which individuals feel good and can enjoy themselves. Something that would be incorporated is a mix of individual fitness and group fitness. The reason for this is because everybody is different on how they workout and go about their fitness, so it is only reasonable to give people options they would want. For example a weight room and track would be some of the things I would include for individual fitness while yoga rooms, spinning rooms, and basketball courts would be something I’d like to include for group fitness. There would be a few spaces that would be outdoors for the warmer weather but the majority of the facility would be indoors. I would also like to figure out a way to incorporate a lot of windows and sunlight in my design. This is because of the vitamin D and the feel good feeling the sun provides.
My facility would affect the school culture by bringing a sense of independent wellness, choice, and enjoyment in fitness. With so many options, a person can choose whatever they want to do on any given day. This means that if they just wanted to do something by themselves then they could lift weights or run on the track. If they wanted to do something with a group of people they could play in the sports facilities, go to the yoga room, or do cycling. I would like to leave the facility in its original area but I plan to find a way emphasize and maximize that space that is used.
