Redesign Your School Athletic Pavilion | 2014 Newhouse Architecture Competition #20148042
|Overview: The problem at hand is that obesity in the United States has grown considerably in recent years. Although there may be some causes for obesity that we cannot prevent such as medical illnesses and medication, there is a solution for those who are obese for not such critical reasons. This solution is to simply consume less calories and increase the level of physical activity. This is why building an athletic pavilion for all high schools is a great idea. A pavilion would include a gym with courts for all sports, a weight room/fitness room and a swimming pool. It would also include all the necessary utilities such as showers and locker rooms, along with a healthy snack bar.

-Wonderful plan studies
-3d drawings of both the building massing (or what it looks like from the exterior) and of the most important interior spaces are needed to fully understand the building
You clearly identified a problem area - poor current conditions of facilities & difficult within the current circulation of the spaces. Reworking existing facilities is a great economic solution and I applaud your effort to do so. However, I think within the guidelines of the competition we were looking for a little more exiting & fun ways to make the overall facility accommodate more needs (the needs of all students and athletics) by providing new facilities and organizational ideas - not merely just improving existing conditions. A site plan with plans of existing spaces could have really helped you early on with this brainstorming and helped us to get a better overall layout of your school's current facilities.
