Redesign Your School Athletic Pavilion | 2014 National High School Architecture Competition #141

Summary

Brainstorming is the fun part of the designing process, but it can also be the most difficult. It is not always easy to become inspired. I had trouble coming up with ideas at first because of the simplicity of a gymnasium. I had trouble thinking of things to change, but then inspiration hit. Before that inspiration hit though, I always had a pencil in hand and a piece of paper, lazily sketching. I started by drawing the original floor plan and then making changes in size rather than worrying about layout. At first all that came from my pencil was scribbles, but those led me to inspiration. I asked students at my school what they would like changed about our gymnasium, and then incorporated those ideas into my own design.
