Redesign Your School Athletic Pavilion | 2014 National High School Architecture Competition #141

Summary

In the completed design, I have made changes in an effort to correct and improve our gymnasium. Now there is natural lighting and an increase in space. Now the Weight Room can be used by a larger number of students without becoming overcrowded and miserable. This will make holding the weight training club easier and more successful. It will also help to encourage fitness in a group of people who focus on academics and not sports, partially because A-TECH does not have their own sports team. That does not make fitness any less important, and now students have a greater opportunity to exercise and enjoy themselves while improving themselves physically. Mentally, we are all still improving, but we do need a break sometimes.
For a personal touch to the project, I decided that I wanted to leave some of the old elements as they are. This means part of the landscaping arrangement currently in place. There are in two different places large rocks shadowed by trees which flower every spring and add an aesthetic touch. The rocks are a much loved spot to find some solitude and peace or just focus on some work. There is also an old bench sitting outside on the western side which I would move to the front near the rocks. Though the gym would change, it would still have a bit of a familiar feel to it.
