Mira Loma High School Cafeteria/Student Union Re-Design

Summary

For our design of the cafeteria, we decided to create a two story building. The sketch of our building includes lunch lines and the cafeteria in the bottom floor and a stage where performances can be held. The restrooms are also on the first floor. The second floor has lunch tables and the elevator. The exterior design of the building is mostly made of glass with a round roof to provide better acoustics.

Lucy Jacobo Director of Interior design. What I have done with the inside of the cafeteria is create more space with what we already had. I added a second floor to make more space for eating and entertaining in the cafeteria. As well as created more space for the lines of students getting their lunch, with a second floor with more dinning space ther does not need to be too many tables in the first floor.

Director of Exterior Design- Marcela Maldonado
As the director of the exterior of the building I decided to change the windows that we know have to some bigger ones and that help with the sunlight rays. It'll keep the room temperature low and not use the A/C that much. The panels added on the top of the cafeteria are to help with the plants inside the cafeteria and use less energy. The balcony is to add more space to the room and to have students eat in nature.

Director of Interior Decor- Ines Diaz
As director of interior decor, I decided to give the cafeteria a more nature inspired look. I changed the walls to be green instead of the current white color. I also decided to have the floor be yellow to match with the walls. The tables are also now round wooden tables instead of long rectangle tables. The reason for that is to have the wood go with the nature theme and to have a more homey feeling with the round tables. There are also a lot of plants around the cafeteria .

Director of Landscape- Ana Azad
As the director of landscape I wanted to involve not too much of the plants. It is a cafeteria so I decided to focus more of the way the building looks visually with the other landscapes around. I wanted to include a fountain in the front of the cafeteria to give to more of a classic modern take. I added some nice red and pink flowers on the top for the balcony to give it a pop of color.

Director of Sustainability and Energy- Bianca Dobre
As the director of sustainability and energy, I wanted to focus more on the lighting of the cafeteria that would give it a more natural feel. The large windows and the glass roof is an an energy saver to the place because it reduces the use of electricity and extra unnecessary lighting inside. For the bathrooms and kitchen and indoor lighting ( For use when there is no sunlight) we chose to use LED light bulbs. They last longer and are energy efficient, as well as with air- conditioning costs. Also we thought it would be a good idea to include solar panels on the roof for the electricity as well as solar power for the air conditioning in the cafeteria to provide a cooler environment so students can enjoy their lunch hour.
