Madre Abad Park
|All communities need some type of park, whether it’s for play purposes or just being in an open environment. The problem is that many people don’t always live near one. So creating one in an empty space, not only would it allow people an open space, but the community would look better. At the moment the location of the empty lot is full of shrubs and has dead trees in the center. There are many offices around the park. A park would give those in that community a chance to socialize, relax, and have fun close to their home or work place.
After researching the demographics and the surrounding area of the location, it is obvious that there is no close park, which would make this park a great interest point for many who seek relaxation, especially those with children and a busy life. There would be a playground for the children, benches close to the playground so parents may sit there while the children enjoy their time there. Since this is a desert, there is much sun exposure, especially during the summer, which means the play area would have a canopy over it to protect the people as well as the equipment from sun damage and other weather changes. There would be an eating area with benches and tables, that would be great for small socializing events.
As mentioned before, since we live in the desert, plants would have to be those that need least water. Even though a traditional park usually has a lot of green space, the color does not necessarily need to be green. Desert plants would be a great way to show the community that we should be more cautious with our water source and that not everything needs to be the color green. Have green with little green. There will also be paths around the pocket park so those who choose to may walk. There would be a hill where people could get a view of the surrounding buildings, from a higher point.
