Summary

In order to collect information, research must be done on things such as the sites that are available in town where current pocket parks exist and plots of land in which building a pocket park would be appropriate for that area. After choosing a site plan, whether improving or altogether creating an entirely new pocket park, in order to create a thriving and functional park, one must be able to pick and choose the things that effect the experience a patron has at parks. In Las Vegas, parks such as the "Butterfly Park" on the north side of town or the newer Mountain's Edge Recreational park work as great examples for parks that enjoyable for kids and adults of the like. Factors such as big parks, areas for children to play in, and even water fixtures to cool off in the hot summers are some things to keep in mind when building and design a pocket park. Both positive and negative aspects of these parks can be taken into account and then be transitioned into a park that takes more of the positives and avoids the negatives to create something even better. With our plot of land is limited to 13,000 square feet for the plot of land that exists on Garces and 6th St. I would need to be able to make effective use of the limited space that I have. With my own personal experiences at the two parks mentioned earlier, aspects of both parks stand out much more than some of the others. Areas for sports, an interactive playground, and a space for people to run and work out are great when you have large amounts of space much like the Mountain's Edge Rec. park has, but with limited space I would need to limit what I would put into the park itself into just having only what's necessary. I would definitely want a water fixture for cooling off in the summer and other fixtures for making sure patrons enjoying the park stay hydrated even they did not bring their own water. A vital part that parks should all have would be to be active and being able to expend energy in a healthy and enjoyable way. By having a playground that interacts with the children would make their experience much better than a regular playground in which they would have to make up their own games and find their own creative uses for the provided equipment. Most importantly, the adults that come with their children need to be considered in that they should get a place to work out and be active as well while their children are doing the same. Other factors such as a place to eat, shading structures, and bathrooms are also very important.
