Green Space: Pocket Park Design | 2015 National High School Architecture Competition

Summary

I am very pleased with the final result of my project. This pocket park is meant to take city people out of their city and take them into an unknown beauty that their eyes and lungs and experience. Throughout the whole process I have gathered extensive information that has influenced and are shown in my design. The very first thing i did was create the green walls that i thought were very important to my design. I want my design to be an escape for people to enter a whole new state of mind where the noise of the city virtually disappears, however without them feeling trapped in a room, where one can smell the sent of the trees and the grass combined with the breeze. The green walls are one of the biggest concepts I integrated in this project but the structures that were placed in this small area also add the the uniqueness of this pocket park. The small but impressive structures a modern and peaceful look as they consist of basic shapes that do not distract from the rest of the park. With inspiration for the casinos and other buildings in Las Vegas' Strip i included the curtain wall systems that are used to give it a nice touch to all the vegetation around. That's where the trees and small bushes came into play. Like mentioned before and I can't stress enough I wanted to create a whole new atmosphere in this small yet huge land. i placed as much tress as I could but still tried to keep it organized. Then i added benches to the areas where i thought visitors could really submerge themselves in this paradise.
