Urban Sanctuary
Summary
For my final design, I developed a sleek, modern design that not only sticks out, but incorporates elements of the rest of the Las Vegas atmosphere. For the front entrance, I tried to develop a design similar to that of the old, grand Casino entrance and like that of Freemont street. Many of the foliage and color schemes I used are similar to many of the popular Vegas parks.
As far as sticking out goes, I developed a unique design and atmosphere that, although similar, stands out from the rest of the city. I provided an area unique to that part of the community, not only providing a park, but an element that helps give the area an identity that many parts of Las Vegas lack due to the glitter and glam of the "Vegas Experience".
As a park, Urban Sanctuary provides all the necessities of a recreational area. I made sure to include grassy areas for children to play on as well as areas of rest for individuals passing by. The park provides an area of isolated peace and sanctuary from the outside, making it a safe area of community avocation.

Adaptive Reuse
Architects often find creative ways to reuse old structures that are no longer in use. Check out how old rail lines were adapted to create New York's High Line and Chicago's 606.
