Why should we conserve water?

Our planet does contain over a billion trillion litres of water, however very little of this is drinkable. Over 97% of water on Earth is salt water. Also over two thirds of fresh water is locked away in ice caps and glaciers. Nearly two million people die from a lack of safe drinking water every year.
