The focus of every bus shelter, no matter what the city, is comfort and convenience. Many people feel that a bus shelter should be able to shield them against all types of weather in any season. If it is cold, they should be warm, if it is wet, they should be dry and so on. Additionally, people want waiting at a bus shelter to be a relaxing experience, rather than one of annoyance. The seats should be comfortable, the area around the stop shouldn't be crowded, and people should always be aware of their surroundings, instead of feeling disconnected from outside the bus shelter. In terms of convenience, many who ride the bus want it to be predictable and simple, with access to everything they need. However, many of the bus shelters in New York City are severely lacking in many of these aspects. Passengers have minimal shelter from harsh weather, uncomfortable seats, and feel inconvenienced by the wait times for the bus. My bus shelter design will fill all of these requirements and needs, as well as address the problems with the NYC shelters.
