Summary

Our design for the library has finally been completed. During this entire process we as a company strived to keep our initial idea for the redesign of the library alive and I believe that as a company we did so. The new design of the library incorporates what our company stands for and that is the urban generation. Our library is timeless and able to adapt to fit the needs of any race, gender, and age. Whether it be you need a quiet place to study or knit, or you need a place to talk and spread out your work or you just want to sit down and simply relax by the Zen garden, our library caters to you.
Some may argue that the architecture for our library is very basic and our Director of Building Design would completely agree. We believe that our society as a whole needs to take a step back and realize that simplicity is beauty. This idea of simplicity came from our Director of Landscape who thought that the Zen garden and pond would be a perfect match for our library. And after seeing our final design we couldn’t agree more. Our Director of Interior Design wanted to focus more on the urban style and make sure that our idea of being urban was well represented. He decided to represent this by the artwork. Now if you were to browse through our Google sketch ups you will see that there is not any artwork displayed and the reason for that being is that we as a company didn’t want to label art. Who are we to say that one piece of artwork represents urban more than another? So the amazing idea that our Director of Interior Design came up with was to allow the students as well as the community to draw, paint, graffiti, and write on the walls for artwork. This allows the community to be creative as well as keep our initial idea of urban.
Our library is not only urban but as well as eco-friendly. Our Director of Sustainability worked very diligently to find resources to use for our building to help reduce our waste. She not only used recycled concrete, solar panels, natural light, and denim insolation for our building but she even went as far as also using grey water (recycled water), geothermal heating, and low powered flushing toilets. There’s a reason that her nickname is “Green Girl”.
We’ve already established that our library caters to the needs of the people as well as to the needs of our environment. But it also provides for the people as well. Our library offers programs such as parenting, language, yoga, art, and knitting classes. As well as programs that encourage the generations to connect with one another such as karaoke, dance, and game nights. We have also decided to partner with the Sacramento Public library, other San Juan Unified School libraries, and a website by the name of Teen Ink.
We can only hope that our library brings as much pleasure to the people it serves as it did to our company when creating it.
