With the changes made in this design, existing problems will be solved! The lines to get food are organized. This will save time for students when they are getting their lunches. Presently, It is very easy for students to cut and to create problems during the process of lunch time. However, with this plan, there will be no chaos. Currently there are roughly 200 students at Johnson City High School. With the shown seating, there is not enough sitting room in the cafeteria for a minimum of 202 students. The edible garden/courtyard will allow our school to be very eco-friendly. (The idea of all natural and energy efficient ways to store water, natural soils, and compost would allow our school to offer a healthy cafeteria.)

Very nice plan! Back pack hangers? It's a security concern. Why not lockers? Or have students leave back packs in their own lockers? But that is a good idea to have students store their back packs elsewhere besides next to them on the floor where it can be a tripping hazard.

Some students may leave their back packs in their lockers.. However, others will not fit with the other binders, books, paper, etc.. The back pack hangers will create an organized place for students to keep their items other than a pile of clutter in the hallway, or creating a tripping hazard next to the students themselves.

I think having another area for the back packs is a great idea. I think you should think about the security issues to having hangers rather than lockers. For example, is a student going to feel secure enough to leave their belongings on a hanger with other back packs nearby when students are going to be hanging out near the hangers, hanging and grabbing their back packs? How safe is your school? Why do students keep their back packs next to them rather then laying it against the wall of the cafeteria or elsewhere? Just some questions to consider. Follow whatever you think is best for your school since you know it best!

I think keeping it beside them is a safety issue, but some pluses is that if students do keep them beside them at all times then there wont be a chance of stealing or any student "browsing" through the bookbags. So I would keep that in mind, because in our cafeteria (if you want to look at my profile, feel free to browse) we also have hooks but most students prefer to keep the bookbags beside them!

With the existing conditions, a variety of students leave their back packs in their lockers... However, other student's backpacks will not fit... The back pack hangers will create an organized place for students to keep their items other than a pile of clutter in the hallway, or creating a tripping hazard next to the students themselves. The safety factor created by the backpack hangers isn't a big issue. The hangers will primarily be used when a student uses the indoor seating. This will allow visibility to all students and teachers that are in this room.

The hooks for your cafeteria is a good idea though. i like how you also put recycling bins around the areo instead of trash cans, more eco-friendly.!

Ok great! If you think the hangers will be safe enough with students and teachers present in the cafeteria, then you have thought about the safety concerns of this space. Your plan is great so far! Do you have plans to show different types of drawings?

Nice job with your project. You did a particularly good job of demonstrating the steps of the design process. I like your focus on the outdoor area and feel that this design, if implemented, could be a great contribution to your school. Well done.
