Who will occupy the container home? In my container home I feel That I will have a family occupying the home, maybe between 4-5 members. • Who will live in this house? The family will includes the two parent/guardians, and their children, and or pets. • How many people and how are they related? Around 4-5 people, and maybe their pets, they will all be relatives. • What are their genders and ages? They can be any gender, their ages around their late 30s and late 20s, the kids would still be toddlers. • What do they do? They could nurses, businessmen, any type of job of that sort. • What are their physical needs? The container home will need accessibility to people with disabilities, and the elderly. There cant be too many stairs and at least two exits. • What are their emotional needs? The home needs comfort, safety, and privacy for the home owner. • What are some key demographical characteristics of the dwelling’s occupants? The home needs to be near a school, or a park, and around stores for emergencies. Who will interact with the container home and its occupants? The people surrounding the home, like the neighbors, and city workers. • Who are the neighbors? Anyone who lives surrounding the home. • What are their physical needs? A nice small quite home, with not a lot of trouble, a safe home for their family. • What are their emotional needs? To continue to live in safe, neighborhood, with their own privacy. • How will they interact with the unit and its occupants They can come to the unit to say hello to the occupants. • What are some of the main characteristics of the neighborhood and the community? The neighborhood, is very small, quiet, and safe. Also, a very close community. Who will own the house and pay for its construction and upkeep? Who ever owns the home, they wife of husband, they can share the price equally. • How long will they want to live in the container house? Along as they want, maybe throughout their child’s first years of life. • How would you describe their aesthetic preferences with respect to the container design? They would want a lot of room for their family, but in a way where it looks elegant and proper, they don’t want it to look like a trailer home. Who will live or work in close proximity to the dwelling? Anyone, city workers, teachers, anyone. • What concerns might they have? They might not want to make much noise to not disturbed the people in the residence. • How might a container house design either please or annoy a neighbor? Many people have various opinions on container homes, some people might think that they are nice and modern, and some people might think that they are ugly, and weird looking. Who might threaten the safety of the home’s occupants? Criminals or other people who might try to steal from the home. • Why would they be interested in the occupants? They might think that they have a lot of luxuries in their homes. • What physical characteristics or special abilities would they have that could endanger the occupants? They might be bigger, or older than the occupants, or they might even have weapons to scare the occupants. WHERE Where will the container home be located? The container might be located near 60th and saint Louis or near the Burbank area. • How much space is available for the container home? Collect the site dimensions and a site plan. Find a location map. Collect photos of the site and adjacent uses. • What are the annual weather conditions? • What is the proximity to other people or buildings? Find dimensions to the neighboring structures/buildings. • What are the geographic conditions of the site? Since it will be in Chicago, the weather is going to rage, sometimes in the winter it gets super cold, and in the summer it gets extremely hot. • What are the traffic conditions near the site? I want it located in a nice, quiet neighborhood with not a lot of traffic, but near the city or closer to major roads there might be a large sum of traffic. • What zoning restrictions impact the design? The impact on the design is that it has to fit in to the residential area, and that it can not turn into a commercial usage. • How will the site location impact the health and safety of the occupants? The site location will impact the occupants health because it depends how far the residents are from the medical centers, and their safety is impacted on by where the house is located. • How will the site location impact the health and safety of people who interact with the house? If the house isn’t properly designed and or built people who are around the home will get injured or their safety will be at risk. Where will the container home be converted into a living structure? The container home will have to be converted to a home like structure on the site, so they will know approximately how much space will be needed when building the home. • Will the home be constructed on‐site? Yes, preferably it will be built on site because it will give us more of an idea about how and exactly where the home will be built. • Where will the materials for the living space be acquired? The parts will end up in a scrap yards in order for them to be recycled. • Will the materials end up in a landfill or will they be recyclable? Most of the materials will end up in the scrap yards, not in landfills. WHAT What other materials will you need to convert the shipping container into a living space? We will need glass, and wood to make the home into more of a living space. • Will the materials used need to be durable over long periods of time? Yes they will need to last because the home owner will not want to be replacing parts of the house over time. • Will the materials have to reflect a certain type of aesthetic? Yes the materials will also have to be nice shades of colors, and very natural like, so that the home looks really nice to the buyers and surrounding neighbors. • Will the budget limit the type of materials that can be used? At times maybe it will but we could work around the budget to fix that problem. • Will certain materials pose a danger to or protect the home’s occupants or those who interact with the container home? Since the materials that will be used wont be harmful they will protect the owners of the home. • What types of recycled materials can be used to convert the container in to an affordable house? Materials such as bamboo, and recyclable metals will be used. What types of designs and construction methods are best suited for converting a shipping container? The containers will be stacked up so that the entire home will fit and look like a natural home. What features will the dwelling need to have to be a livable space? It will need bathrooms, bedrooms, doors, windows, ect. • What are the essential requirements for a day‐to‐day living space? The essentials, would have to be bathrooms, windows, doors, bedrooms, and some sort of kitchen. • What special requirements stem from using a shipping container as a primary structure? One requirement will be where to have the installation, and lighting located and where it will get the energy for it. • What is the ultimate function of the container home? What does this require? The ultimate function for the home will be the heating, and this requires the installation. WHY Why are you building a dwelling? I am building a dwelling because it will be useful to the people who will interact with the home daily. • Will the dwelling be used for any other commercial purposes such as a home business? No it will only be used as a home. • Will it be used for primary or secondary housing? It will be a primary home • Will it convey some type of social status? Yes, we want it to look nice so that the people living in the home feel like they will go up on a social ladder. • Will it symbolize some type of attitude regarding environmental sustainability? Yes, because it will be environment friendly. Why use a shipping container as a primary structure in a living space? It will save a lot of money, and it will have a nice look to it. • Why is it a good primary structure? It is good because it will be a very strong structure. • Why not just build a brand new house from all new materials? Because it will require more money being used, and more materials. Why do you see a demand for these dwellings? Because of their affordability and style. • What are some specific situations in which this housing could be most practical? The way the house will be presented and built in. • Why is this more sustainable than building a brand new primary structure? Because the home will already have a strong hold and base to it.
