This is a site-analysis diagram showing the location of the cafeteria, a sun diagram, the direction of the wind, and the best view around the school. The sun diagram is important because it shows where the sun is at a given time. Luckily, The area where the cafeteria is located has exposure from the south. When the sun is in the south, it is usually around 12:00 to 1:00. This is about the same time that lunch is in session. It is important to know which direction the prevailing winds come from for ventilation purposes. I am wanting to incorporate a semi-passive ventilation system. A semi-passive ventilation system utilizes natural airflow to push the stagnant air out of the building and to draw fresh air inwards, kind of like breathing. I am only using a semi-passive ventilation system because a completely passive ventilation system would not be adequate for the size of the cafeteria and the amount of indoor air pollution that may be created from the kitchen. Since the cafeteria will be an addition, the north and east views will be blocked by the rest of the building.The view from the south is perhaps the best view from the school due to the scenery and visibility. The west side of the school has a parking lot, and the county bus garage, not a pretty sight.
