I am an architect in Illinois serving on the competition jury and it was a pleasure to evaluate this project. You appear to have done significant research within the student population but it does not appear to include faculty or cafeteria staff.

Through the use of hand sketches and written text you have communicated your thought process well however I am curious to know why your various early design iterations were rejected. This information can help support your final design which appears to be well thought out and illustrated.

Several items to consider regarding the presentation include labeling the spaces on the floor plans and color coding the plans to make orientation easier.

Overall a good job. Keep up the good work.

I'm a university administrator in Washington supporting college students studying architecture, landscape architecture, construction management, and urban design. I also studied architecture in college. It has been a pleasure to review your competition submission. Thanks for sharing your project with the jury.

First off, I was completely engaged by your project overview description. You captured my attention and encouraged me to keep flipping through the project. The photos you included did a great job of capturing the concerns you have for the space - crowding, speed of service, garbage. Good job with laying out the issues.

Good use of sketches. You will often find a stack of sketches several inches think on an Architects' desk. The explore ideas over and over until the right solution comes along. One thing I noticed

One think I had a hard time understanding was the final form of your design. Are you imagining a completely new cafeteria or the redesign of the existing space? It looks like you settled on the square space because it was easiest in Revit. I would encourage you to try the design again as your Revit skills increase. It would be fun to see the outcome in a more complex shape.

I missed the sustainability and healthy eating portion of the program. In your introduction you showed a picture of a table piled with garbage. I wonder if you could come up with a composting/waste management plan for your existing cafeteria that would encourage your classmates to clean up after each lunch period. I think design might be a great friend in accomplishing this. Sometimes fun, inspiring designs, even in garbage collection areas in spaces can make people engage and participate.

Thanks for sharing your high school with us. Good luck with your studies and your busy lunch periods. Keep working with Revit and perfecting your skills. Good job!
