hi jacob_s - this is sarah - one of the jurors from round 2. first - i want to congratulate you for making it to round 2. the competition was pretty stiff - and your work really stood out.

i think that you have done a really good job documenting the entire design process. your project is strong in every stage of the development. i was especially impressed at the amount of attention you paid to sustainable issues. building green is essential to the practice of architecture today, and it is great to see that you are thinking about these important aspects of the design. i also wanted to compliment you on your mastery of revit, especially for renderings. the drawings you have produced are very sophisticated. one comment for the next go around would be to focus a little more on your writing. the captions you added were very clear - but it seemed like they focused more on the technical details of the rendering - not on the overall design concept.

but that is a pretty minor criticism. overall - i was very impressed with the project. you also get an extra gold star for your participation on the discover design website. we noticed that you made a point to comment on many of the other students work. this is really important - and makes this website even better. so thanks!

Good view showing volume of the space. Have you considered any hanging elements such as sound attenuation panels or special lighting break up the vastness of the space? This could also be an art installation or change of ceiling plane to accentuate different areas. Overall, great job.

A very impressive analysis of the roof system. I really like the distribution of the skylights and your logic in placing them - i might just suggest that for practicality you might consider grouping some of the small ones together into larger units. Less roof penetrations mean less potential future leaks! I also respect your diligence in determining that the solar panels will not be an obtrusive visual presence - that is an important consideration.

another very descriptive rendering. The level of illumination provided by natural light is impressive and well demonstrated by your use of an exact time for the modelling program.

great rendering! and your careful consideration of the details of seating and fountain water supply are evidence of a thorough and creative design process. This really looks like a cafeteria that i would enjoy using.
