2012 national competition project #025 | cafeteria redesign

Summary

I made the extension large enough to sit about 200 more students, which should be enough to meet the need. I noticed that the main source of lighting for the main cafeteria were the glass windows and doors that opened to the courtyard. Wanting to keep that natural lighting, I sloped the roof of the cafeteria as well as the roof of the extension and added skylights, drawing my inspiration from some technology buildings up in Logan, Utah. I turned many of the large windows into doorways so that the extension would have an open space feel.
