Advanced Technologies academy was built in 1994, for students adapt to higher education using tools of technology to help them strive further in the pursuit of education. The school has always had a lack of physical educational needs starting with the gym, when it opened up in 2001, the gym was built to satisfy the schools population at that time, and wasn't thought out properly because the thought of an expanding school was not in the thought process of the gymnasium. The gymnasium was built in the need of 700 kids, not all 700 being enrolled into physical education classes. Now, in 2014, the school population has nearly doubled but the amount of space in the gym has stayed the same.
I want to expand the gym, not recreate it, because its more efficient and saves money in the long run. I want to expand the locker rooms so all PE students can have their own locker and space to change, also make showers more private and accessible. The increase in locker rooms will also create a sort of quad in the entrance of the gym, which can be a hangout place for students before school, after school, and even during lunch. With the increase in space I want to create a second floor, which can enable students to have places to hold clubs, banquets, and teachers can even have classrooms in that vicinity. I wanted to keep natural light in the gym so the gym extends through the second floor to a non official third to receive incoming light. Also there are railings on the second floor so students can feel the air and not feel trapped, also to take in a view.
