Summary

I had a variety of different ideas about possible designs for my high school cafeteria. Since our school was built in the middle of the 20th century, I could go with an older style of design, but many contemporary additions to Shawnee Mission East like a north wing and a new auxiliary gym allow me to design a modern cafeteria that would also fit in with the rest of the school campus.

I brainstormed ideas by browsing through different books on contemporary architecture in New York, and Googled different Frank Lloyd Wright buildings to get ideas for different kinds of materials and building shapes that would go well with the Shawnee Mission East campus.

The next step I took was starting 2 or 3 different possible cafeteria designs, each with large windows to allow lots of light in, a variety of seating options, and a food serving area which would minimize waiting time in food lines.
