Our school library has many problems that need to be fixed. The library needs a larger budget than just the few pennies it receives at this time so that the librarian can replace or repair the books as well as save to get new computers. Also there is not a lot of space for chairs and sitting areas other than the minimal amount that is already being used for that purpose. The maximum capacity of our library is about 80 people but more than 100 students are using library constantly during lunch time. Also the library is broken up into three rooms which is a problem because it is hard for Ms. Gibson the librarian to keep watch over what is going on in each room causing her to have to constantly be moving around to monitor each space.
Within the last few years the problems have been getting worse and worse mainly due to the fact that the library doesn't receive enough money to keep up with the problems that are occurring now such as buying new supplies and technology the school district has supplied us. However the problem has not been addressed before in the past because the library is still in working condition. if they do decide they would like to change something though the entire place isn't up to code anymore so changing one thing would make them in turn have to spend a lot more money than initially anticipated.
We know we will have a successful solution when all the items that are broken can be replaced, a new tech person that specializes in technology is hired so that all computer related issues can be resolved with ease and an up to code building has been constructed. the main problems will have been fixed once everything meets modern day code instead of the 60’s building regulations/standards have been met.
In 2010 Mira Loma High School celebrated its 50th anniversary. Built in 1960, Mira Loma High School is one of nine comprehensive high schools in the San Juan Unified School District, located in Sacramento County. With one primary feeder school and strong academic and extracurricular programs, Mira Loma is a school of choice for many of San Juan as well as out of district students. The school is located in a suburban community, with students from a wide spectrum of social-economic backgrounds. This diversity is a valuable asset that strengthens and enriches our community.
Mira Loma High School is a comprehensive high school with 1665 students. This represents an increase in enrollment of about a hundred students over the previous year. Enrollment is favorably affected by students from outside Mira Loma’s attendance area. These students choose to attend Mira Loma for its outstanding IB, MYP, IS, and Passport programs. From this pool, Mira Loma attracts 353 inter-district students and 80 intra-district students. Mira Loma currently has 451 freshmen, 435 sophomores, 423 juniors, and 356 seniors.
