Summary

In order to collect information on the site itself, I utilized both Google maps and Bing Maps to observe the surrounding area. The site is bordered by residences on both its eastern and southern borders and located at the intersection of Simmons and Holly. Across Simmons lies yet another residential neighborhood, while across Holly lies apartments.

In order to collect data on the local residents, I took advantage of several demographic websites. By doing so, I was able to observe the statistics for family size, annual income, age groups, ethnicity, etc. This is imperative in helping me decide what elements to integrate into my pocket park's design in order maximize its appeal to the local residents.

According to my demographics research, the majority of the local resides lay between the ages zero to thirty-five, meaning that most of said residents are of family age and thus most likely have families. This is important as it would be beneficial to design the park with elements that corroborate with and complement families searching for somewhere to spend quality family time.

In order to obtain ideas on the design of the pocket park itself, I looked at various other parks on the internet and in my city. When observing, I considered which elements I enjoyed, which elements I disliked, and which elements I would remove or modify. Taking note of my personal preferences helps to find a design that I would believe to be appealing to the general population.
