Summary

Based upon feedback the changes we made to the sketch up are: the placement of the librarian's desk, placement of the technology room, music room, and language room, placement of the doors and windows, and an addition to seating and shelving. Before these rooms were located in different areas and it would have been extremely difficult for the librarian or security guard to watch over the library.

We have also included more solar skylights and the overall placement of the exterior trees will not block the sunlight.
From the director of energy and sustainability point of view, I learned that designing for a library is more than expanding the library to add more storage and shelves, but it requires designing new systems for energy and sustainability, finding ways of being space efficient while meeting goals, such as the ability for the librarian or security guard to be able to watch over the entire library all at once. Each part in designing a new space requires inter laying parts with all the aspects of designing including interior, exterior, community relations, interior decor, and landscaping.
As a member of this group project, I learned that every person had an equal part to play regardless of which responsibilities they were responsible for. We were committed to producing high quality work while striving to fulfill each of our responsibilities. I tried to take all feedback and change our project for the benefit of the group after bringing forward all my suggestions to better our model and work. We were committed to do any needed tasks to complete our work and used what we had to accomplish these tasks. Finally, after listening to what would be beneficial in a new library and taking feedback, we created a space that would fulfill these needs and offer an artistic appearance for the new Mira Loma library. Regardless of whether a person has experience or not, every project is different and has its complications, but with motivation, anything can be accomplished. I found that I had difficulty implementing ideas into the design, but through teamwork, everything worked out.

Jacqueline Banas (Director of Exterior Design) - The feedback about the exterior of the new design is that the windows are separated because you don’t have to have as many panes and it will be easier to maintain due to the lesser number of windows and surface area. The Google Sketch-up reflects the changes following the by feedback by windows are more efficient and allows sunlight to light the study areas. What I learned from this experience was that the exterior of a building isn't just an "exterior" but affect the mood, health, and the overall attitude of those who enter. Also the exterior provides the statement of the building and sets the mood of what the area will be like.
