According to the school’s librarian Mrs. Gibson, the issues with the library are as follows:
-There is a lack of space for students to study and read, making it difficult to work in groups, and difficult to bring in classes to use the library.
-The seating isn’t comfortable, and there isn’t an area for students to casually sit and just “hang out”.
-There isn’t enough room to store the COWS (computers on wheels), or even the giant stacks of text books making the library inoperable during the first week of school.
-The furniture and build of the library is outdated, and plain.
-There isn’t enough shelf space for more books.
-There is a low budget, for library expenses.
Mrs. Gibson said that the library is more of a student-to-student environment, and as such should be a place where students enjoy studying. One student said, “The library is really cramped. I get tutored in the library and sometimes have to use the computers to research or print something.” Something Ms.Grueneberger suggested was having a “Mata-Kinkos”, an area where students could copy, scan, and print their work.
Having interviewed members of the Mira Loma Community there is a general consensus that the lack of space and storage is one of the biggest issues with the library.
