For our design, we chose to add on to the existing library space instead of relocating the building. We will be expanding into the empty space directly next to the library as well as adding a second floor. Our roof and the arched wall leading to our garden will be glass while the rest will be concrete. Please note this is our first draft.

Hi. Your model is sort of hard to see. Rather than making a fuzzy screencapture of your Google SketchUp model or drawing, please export it and save a view as a JPG image. Then upload that JPG. Here's how...

Go to: File > Export > 2D graphic > from drop down list, change export type to JPG > Save as JPG

I read your summary and you seem to have selected a couple key issues to address in your design. interior and exterior visual are needed to get an idea of what you are creating. What are your ideas to connect a garden the library and for what purpose?

Mr. Cox

Thank you for your help! We had some difficulties loading up our sketch onto our page. We'll be sure to upload a clear image.

We want our library to have both a peaceful as well as a lively feel to it. When given the challenge to incorporate a garden into our library we had some doubts but with a great amount of time, research, and consideration we've found the absolute perfect type of garden to be a part of our library. A Zen garden is both beautiful as well as calming and would be the perfect fit for the redesign of the library. Our Director of Landscape, Director of Building Design, and Director of Interior Design have all worked closely together to find the most functional as well as logical place for the garden. We will be uploading basic images of our layout to give a better visual on how we incorporated a peaceful Zen garden into the library. Thank you for your time!

It'd be great to see some sketches of the existing floor plan, highlighting some of the problem areas. Also, some sketches indicating some design possibilities would help describe your ideas.

I love the build up of the design, I feel the door opening is a very unique. but, I am not understanding the what the two buildings are, and how they look from the inside.

Those two buildings are just some really rough sketch up designs of study rooms. Our Director of Building Design has been working more on sketch up and soon we will put up a much better representation of what our library truly looks like.

Maybe export the sketchup file it is hard to see.

Will you be creating a floor plan in the future?

We like the idea of relocating the library. It would help to have a picture of what the space will look like where you guys are going to add on. What are the two floors we see in this picture?

I apologize for any miscommunication. We are not relocating the library. We are simply adding on to the existing building. The two floors you see in this picture are actually not floors at all. They are extremely rough sketch up drawings of study rooms. We are doing our best to get newer and more accurate pictures of our design up. Sorry for the inconvenience! Thank you for your question!

What kind of garden(s) will you have in the library?

You have so much specfic information on construction, but your plan to change the library is less clear to me. Don't lose the big picture in the details of the blueprint.

What material will you be using for the second floor?

I hope to see better sketch-up work in your next step. The picture isn't connecting with what you're attempting to do with the space. Remember, there are Google sketch-up tutorials on the internet to help you refine your work.

Urban,

I'm looking forward to the visual of all your wonderful ideas. How will you implement the ML Librarian's ideas into your design?

Urban- You have been asked by several comments (see above) for visuals. They are much needed in determining your vision. Where have you demonstrated your use of sketch up?
