2013 national competition project | Library Redesign #181

The sketch above is of my general floor plan for the library. I would like to incorporate a café area and plenty of individual study and collaborative working areas. I also think that a sort of meditation/ calm room where there can be an incorporation of natural aspects such as plants would help to reduce stress and allow the students who utilize the library to have a greater focus. Another important aspect to a modern day library is a place to present ideas or be an outlet for creativity. In this modern age, a library is more than just a place to read information. It is a place that should be personalized to the individual, yet allows one’s ideas to be manifested and supported by his/her peers. To make the library more personal and accessible to the individual, I believe that it is important that there is one main librarian desk, as well as a tech station for each space. This station will allow students to check out their own books or provide help for finding the books they want at a place convenient for them. Overall, it would reduce check-out lines and provide for a more interactive and user-friendly library experience.
