2013 national competition project | Library Redesign #181

05/14/13
A major part of the plan of the new library is to make it eco-friendly. For example, placing solar panels on the roof could reduce the amount of unclean energy that the building consumes. The library's restrooms will also alleviate the waste created by paper because there will be hand dryers instead of paper towels. In the café, all napkins, etc. will be made from recycled materials and there will be a garbage disposal area in which one separates plastic, glass, paper, and puts leftover food into what will be compost in order to reduce waste going to landfills (above picture—inspired by Whole Foods). Eco-friendly furniture is another bonus. Materials such as recycled wood and bamboo do a lot to preserve the earth's resources and I plan on incorporating recycled materials such as these into my design.
