The band room is located next to the gym and unfortunately takes the form of a portable. Being a past band student at A-TECH I can say that especially during the changing of seasons, there have come about many problems with the heating and cooling systems in the portable. Now imagine fifty plus students all crammed into a unreasonably small portable, playing various rooms in a hot/ stuffy room without air conditioning. It’s a nightmare! There isn't enough space in the room at all, meaning that students have to store their instruments on the floor. The movability in that room is non existent. I have personally knocked down a more cellos than I can count on my fingers. There is no walkway space and it makes the students and also the teacher absolutely miserable. Considering the fact that the band and orchestra room is located in a portable, the acoustics in the room absolutely DO NOT meet the expectations the students have when practicing. Often times the sound that the band produces sounds muddy and never seems to be clear. This issue doesn't always depend on the talent of the band, it could also be the way the room is put together. With crowding lockers, billions of students, a lack of funding and support, the band never gets to sound the way it needs to. Our school needs to finally start appreciating the arts and provide a far more better band room than it already has. With incorporating the band room into the pavilion the faculty and students at Advanced Technologies can start to appreciate the band more because the issues that reside in that portable can be solved.
