At the peak of the existing bridge, viewers can not see the view of the seemingly endless railroad tracks and the rest of the Bayonne scenery (the culmination of the trip through the bridge) because a harsh, black barrier stands in their way. Although the barrier definitely offers ample safety, it also seems anticlimactic in relation to the journey up the bridge. The thick, hard material creates harsh shadows that create a constricting feeling for passersby. The only sign of life dwindles down to the vibrant graffiti that covers the barriers.
