Early progress of the pocket park: the gazebo, walkways, and entrance "panels" are in place. At this point in time, research on suitable plants is still in progress. Multiple people at this point in my design process have commented the same thing: "Where's your bathroom?", to which I have two reasons for why I will not have a bathroom within Park-itecture. ONE: It's a pocket park. Sure a bathroom would be nice, but this entire space should be utilized to highlight the main features of a park, which in my opinion would be green space. TWO: Tragedy of the Commons, a concept that I learned in both Psychology and Economics. In Economics, it's the theory that because no one is obligated to take care of public spaces, such as a park. In Psychology, it is when people doing a seemingly innocent action leads up to a negative effect, in this case, a filthy bathroom: this is the underlying cause for filth, and a filthy public restroom would not fit into a serene area such as a pocket park. Overall, this is a very simple design, and my belief is that since the park will most likely be used by business-people and children based off of demographic information, they will only need amenities such as seating and shade in order to use the park for its intended purposes.
