After figuring out where I wanted to build my orphanage and what I wanted it to look like, I did more research on the orphan system in Ukraine. After reading some articles, I found this one, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/laurie-ahern/ukraine-orphanages-feeder_b_7344882.html which had quite the impact on me. It talked about how most orphanages in Ukraine are no greater than, and even worse than children being on the streets. The stories some of these orphans have told are very saddening, and have made me realize I want my orphanage to be the opposite of that. I want it to be a sanctuary for kids who've had nothing but pain their whole lives. I want this orphanage to be something that changes them.
