This picture is taken in front of the entrance to the library. Right in front is the check out counter and such. Bookshelves are spread from left to right. The original library's reception/check-out desk were somewhat small and compact. I constantly see the librarians and aids having to move objects elsewhere to make up space for another. They are also seated fairly close to one another. There is also a pillar in a corner of the reception desk and the librarians said that it obstructs their view when they want to supervise. The pillar in the original library actually blocks a fairly large section through the entire length of the library where many students would sit and socialize. I removed it in the redesign.
