Summary

For the new renovation of the library, our team decided that an expansion of the original layout would definitely suit the library’s interior. We agreed that expanding the area would add storage space as well as additional rooms for various classes. As a team, we wanted to find ways to make the library more versatile as well as a suitable green environment for Mira Loma.

We decided from the original layout, that the inner walls of the library as well as the counselor's office would be taken down and expanded into new portions of the building. From there, we will be expanding out the floor into the open area that is currently not in use.

The main floor of the library will be best represented by the current reference room. It will contain a technology, language, and a music lab. It will also have a librarian’s desk and office, a break room, a larger study room with an aquarium, a lounge area; additional bookshelves with self check out stations, a lounge area, and bathrooms for each gender. These new areas will provide more of a study environment for Mira Loma than its original design.

For improvements in energy and sustainability we will be placing floor to ceiling nano windows, which are solar windows that repel dirt and grime. Our new design shows that the study room protrudes from the main building. This will provide much more opportunity for natural lighting and for collecting of energy from the solar panels.

We also decided to use a duel water system where one is clean water and the other is recycled water. With the recycled water the school and community don't need to worry about what products they use while washing their hands, unlike a grey water system. Recycled water is cost and water efficient.
