Summary

Going through this entire process, we have found and came up with many solutions to our concepts and designs.
When we first started the designing process and began to talk about what problems that we, the librarian, students, and even faculty saw in, and around, the library, we had plenty of ideas flowing through each of our minds. An original concept that we had was to have a building that was square with two arcs (the front and back of the library) and the other two sides would be square while the second floor was a round structure. We found that with a round building as a second floor, we lost much of the added space that we were trying to incorporate into our final design. So from this, we changed our design to having two square structures and we now have a spacious and open design (which, of course, was one of our top design changes from the list of problems we created in the beginning of the project). Many of our changes not only come from how we feel our design should and should not look like, but from our peers who we have received constructive criticism from and suggested we change things around to build the best library we possibly can. One of the main suggestions we received from our peers was to add bigger windows into our design to let natural sunlight in. Even though we planned to add as many windows as possible, we felt as though bigger windows would be better than having more windows that are smaller in size. As well, our windows will be dual-paned so heat or cool air will be trapped inside during the cold winter and hot summer days. Through our many changes and compromises, we have developed a building that we like as well as what we think the community and school will both like and benefit from.
