Redesigning the Saint Ursula Academy Library

05/05/13
This image is a site analysis diagram that I made of the Saint Ursula Academy campus. It shows the path of the sun throughout the day, thereby revealing the most optimal spots on campus for outside seating based on the sun's pattern. My main concern is avoiding the intense afternoon sun because that is the time when most students use the library/ the spaces it provides to catch up on group projects or homework. In this diagram, I also indicated some of the most pleasant views on the Saint Ursula campus and the general direction of the wind, which will be taken into consideration.

It is clear your focus during the brainstorming phase was mostly on the location for the new library within the existing campus, which is important and this site analysis sketch was terrific (though some color might make the different elements you've included read more clearly). Though it is also good to use this phase to think about what the library would be like spatially inside, possibly including photos or sketches of other library projects you find inspiring and address similar problems that you are trying to solve.

This is a great sketch and shows that you are thinking about the site and the context.
